Judith & Michael 18 March 2016

Judith and Michael sent me these beautiful photos of their magical day back in March. Judith’s wildly romantic free form spring bouquet in a fresh ivory and green colour palette is an all time favourite.  Garden style with loose and natural foliages it featured ivory roses, white ranunculus, white anemones, freesia, scented stocks, baby’s breath, wax flower with eucalyptus, fern and green bell love it!

Judith was a delight to work with and we had such fun planning the rustic vintage wildflower venue styling for The Tullylagan House Hotel outside Cookstown.

These beautiful photos were taken by Graham Crichton Photography, the Northern Ireland Wedding Awards 2016 Photographer of the Year and clearly a very talented guy. You can check out all the photo’s on Graham’s blog here: http://www.grahamcrichton.com/2016/04/wedding-early-spring-tullylagan-house-hotel-wedding-judith-and-michael/

The dresses were from Ladybelle Bridal, Gilford. Hair was by Joanne McKelvey Hair and make up by Amy Savage MUA.

Congratulations Judith and Michael, it was an honour to be part of your special day.

Wedding Blog | Susan & David | 29th November 2014

I’ve already blogged on this beautiful winter wedding but having recently received some of the professional images from Marc at Photography by Marc Lawson I just had to share again!

It was a crisp winter day and a wedding with a soft and delicate floral brief with a nod to the bride’s Scottish heritage and just a sprinkling of Hepburn glamour and vintage styling.

Beautiful and meaningful Baby’s Breath kept the flowers by Ditsy Floral Design simple and sophisticated.  Rather than fresh flowers the bride had a bespoke brooch bouquet made by Innocent Chaos.

Fairs, Fayres and Celebrations

September has been a hectic month for #DitsyFloralDesign from Wedding Fayres or Bridal Fairs to my own Wedding Anniversary celebrations – five years whoa! The traditional five-year wedding anniversary gift is wood 😦 and the traditional flower of this year is the daisy…now that’s more my style! However, a pamper trip to the fabulous Slieve Russell Hotel is also very much my style!

Some pics to recap my flowery creativity and adventures doing the local wedding fair circuit this month…

Belmont Hotel, Banbridge, Sun 7th September 2014
The Belmont is definitely my local, being the closest wedding venue to my house in Loughbrickland and I was so excited to showcase my #vintagebike for the first time. Laden with a basket of #seasonalflowers it created quite a spin!! Lots of interest in #seasonalweddingflowers and #vintagewedding styling, great day for #DitsyFloral!

Bannville House Hotel, Banbridge, Tue 23rd September 2014
The Bannville House Hotel, is situated just outside Banbridge and is really moving into the wedding market with a newly refurbished function room. My new Creamery can had its first outing at the Bannville and I loved creating the large, loose and natural style flower arrangement to sit on top #milkchurnflowers #countrystyleweddingflowers. Again lots of interest in #seasonalweddingflowers and #somethingdifferent from #DitsyFloral.

Edenmore Golf & Country Club, Sun 28th September 2014
Then last but certainly not least was the beautiful Edenmore, set in themo most picturesque grounds imaginable and on a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon it was perfect for all the prospective brides and grooms. Creamery can crates and chalk boards were my design inspiration this time as well as a beautiful #homegrown Café au Lait dahlia which took centre stage in my sample bouquet! Lots of interest in #justpickedfromthegarden #weddingflowers 🙂

A Spring back to March for the Sweetest Spring Wedding

Oh my word it was heavenly…peachy pink and mint gorgeousness for the sweetest bride earlier this year.  Her maids were dressed in exquisite mint lace detail dresses and the bride knew she wanted to match up with a coral pink.

I was in seventh heaven, Miss Piggy, White Avalanche, pink and white Ranunculus, pink Astilbe, Waxflower, homegrown Hellebores, soft Eucalyptus and a single pink Carnation in memory of a special granny.

Pictures will say so much more than words…enjoy 🙂

July is Rosy – Rose Week Wedding Inspiration

It’s July and Northern Ireland celebrates Rose Week, it’s the 50th anniversary this year and from 21st to 27th July the city celebrates the most spectacular rose display in the International Rose Gardens at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.

Having worked in tourism PR this pic of me is from a photoshoot taken a few years ago to promote the event lol!

rose week

Northern Ireland has a very rich heritage of rose breeding dating back to the late 19th century and here you will find one of the world’s oldest rose breeding families, the Dickson’s of Newtownards. Colin Dickson is the sixth generation to carry on the tradition! Famous roses produced by the Dickson’s Nursery include ‘Shot Silk’, ‘Sea Pearl’, ‘Grandpa Dickson’ and ‘Elina’, which was added to the World Rose Hall of Fame during the International Rose Convention meeting in Japan in 2006.

Therefore the rose is the perfect flower of choice for NI brides and the rose is often hailed as the most romantic bloom.  It really is a staple in bridal bouquets and widely thought to symbolise love. Today there’s a trend for the English Garden Roses, big cabbage like roses that are soft, romantic and very sweet smelling – this look is perfect for the vintage-loving bride who is inspired by beautiful garden blooms and ‘just picked’ styling.

Garden Roses

Wedding flowers aren’t just for bouquets, buttonholes and table centrepieces though; accessorising bridal hair with your favourite blooms is big news this season #floralcrown #floralheadress and think #corsage rather than buttonhole!

gardenroseflowercrown rose corsage

Rose inspiration doesn’t have to stop with your wedding flowers – get creative with food and drink, thinking rose flavoured cocktails and desserts, perfect for a garden party or afternoon tea reception. Or carry the vintage rose motif through to your wedding stationery to continue the theme.

I’m back…

Hello and apologies for my absolute disgraceful lack of blog posts in recent weeks and months! I think this might be one of my worst kept resolutions ever!! And the guilt I’ve experienced every time wordpress reminded me to blog!!

But not to worry, I have actually been doing loads to build my business recently – with weddings and bridal consultations to my gardening discoveries and learnings.  I have lots of content to update you on in coming posts.  In the meantime, a quick update of me and some photos from a recent shoot in my garden…

Elaine Groves, a freelance florist and home grown flower grower in Banbridge, Co Down, Northern Ireland.  From my small cut flower patch and polytunnel outside Banbridge, I grow my own flowers, herbs and foliages for a truly traditional ‘country chic’ or ‘wild romantic’ style.  All my creations are hand made with love and dedication at my peaceful floral studio in the heart of the countryside.
